About the Artwork

This painting entitled 'Burning Ants' shows an ultramarine figure with a magnifying glass (one of the oldest analogue tools), he's using the heat/light of the sun through the glass to burn ants on the ground, the light has however bounced back on him and the other figures. This was inspired by overhearing two older gentlemen on a train talk about their childhood and reminisce excitedly that they both used to burn ants - not quite grasping in their adulthood the cruelty of the act but rather the fondness of the time it was connected to.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Charlie Chrobnik (b.1992) is a British-Ukrainian artist working in London. He graduated from the Royal College of Art with a Masters in Painting in 2023. Chrobnik was one of the winners of Delphian Gallery’s Open Call in 2024 and exhibited with them with Unit 1 Gallery Workshop. He was also selected for D Contemporary’s first annual open call in 2023. He is currently showing work with Artworks East Gallery in 2025. His other recent exhibitions include Passages at D Contemporary, Raw at Soho Revue and Art on a Postcard’s Summer Exhibition, Chrobnik was awarded the RCA Disabled Student Scholarship 2021-23.
