About the Artwork

My practice engages with the reductive power of images—how the most elemental forms can hold both personal resonance and a broader recognition. The surfaces are built on warm grounds and hardened with thick dry-brush strokes. I capture familiar images with clear lines, however the shapes are uncertain, drawn instinctively from automatic sketches and memory.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Emily Macduff (b. 1995, Dundee) is a painter based in London. She studied at The Florence Academy of Art and has recently completed the Turps Studio Programme. Her recent exhibitions include Pearlescent at The Handbag Factory, The Lido Open, Margate and Turps Leavers Show, 2025. She has also been selected for ING Discerning Eye, Mall Galleries, 2025.
