About the Artwork

Having been born in China, (1997) and adopted into a white family from 7 months old, I have consistently been on the receiving end of ignorant comments and confronter of awkward conversations. In this image, I am depicting myself as a large snake monster aimlessly floating from one uncomfortable conversation to another.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jasmine Gardner (b. 1997, Suzhou, China) is an interdisciplinary artist based in the UK. She holds a BA and MA from the Manchester School of Art. Her practice melds sociological themes from her lived experiences with historical art and craft. She was shortlisted for the Young Masters Art Prize (2022) and is a featured artist in the National Museums Liverpool Walker Art Gallery's digital series. She co-directs HappeningInMCR and is currently having her first solo exhibition.
