About the Artwork

This piece is from a small series from 2024 called Fugue State. They were experimental works created shortly after I finished the Turps Correspondence Course, where I began working with ideas of flesh and biological references. The techniques from this series have evolved to become a staple element and underpin many of my paintings.

This work, even in it's title - Fugue State #4 - refers to a state of wandering and unpredictability, of identity shifts and memory shifts. As a woman in my early 50's, dealing with mental and physical shifts this fluid, abstracted form hanging from the top of the canvas, into a space devoid of contextualisation, felt powerful.
