Part of "Half" Series, “Half” (“Ban” in Mandarin) describes a feeling of incomplete understanding—a quiet awareness that something essential always exists just beneath the surface, slightly out of reach. In this series, I reflect on the tension between presence and absence, trying to trace the distance between my physical body and my inner world of thought, emotion, and desire. What appears whole is often fragmented.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mingzhang Sun (b. 1990, China) is a London-based multidisciplinary artist working across painting, textile, and sculpture. He completed an MA in Contemporary Art Practice at the RCA (2025), following a BA in Costume for Performance at LCF(2017) and a BA in Fashion Design at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing (2013). Sun is the recipient of several awards including the Royal College of Art Deputy Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship (2024), First-time Entrant Award at World of Wearable Art (2018), UAL Excellence in Design & Realisation for Performance Award (2017), and the CAFA President’s Choice Award (2013).
