About the Artwork

Essentially, I see my paintings as fluid and fictive territories moving between perceptual ambiguities and evocation of otherness.
Wandering through these metaphysical territories this work has that abstracted lightness and an atmosphere of the memory of a once-familiar landscape. Its title ‘Lightflow’ refers to the desired state of mind between levity, landscape and detachment from the merely physical sensations.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jan Valik (b. 1987) holds MA from Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and MA in Painting from the RCA in London. He was awarded The VUB Foundation Painting Prize 2016 (Slovakia), shortlisted for the Contemporary British Painting Prize 2021 and The Morrison&Foerster Art Prize 2023 (London).
Valik participated in AiR Programs at BankART Yokohama (Japan), Mark Rothko Art Center (Latvia), Egon Schiele Art Centre (Czechia). Solo exhibitions include Amart Gallery (2025, Vienna), Suju Gallery (2024, Karuizawa, JP), Husk Gallery (2022,Brussels), group exhibitions in the UK and across Europe (Belgium, Germany, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, Latvia), China and Japan.
