About the Artwork

Young Love' is about trying to recapture the nostalgia we feel as children and the layers of the paint create a sense of time passing. The scale is used to highlight the memory that has faded and emphasise the importance of objects to us when we are young. I am preoccupied with how mental states alter engagement with reality, how psychological shifts can imbue seemingly banal images, objects or even surface patterns with a kind of confused aura to hint at a deeper significance.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jennifer Louise Martin (b. 1980, London) is an artist based in London, studying for an MFA in Painting at Slade School of Art. She has a postgraduate diploma from Byam Shaw Central St. Martins. She has had solo exhibitions in London, New York, Los Angeles, and Berlin, and her work has been in group shows at the Zabludowicz Collection and Mall Galleries. Her short film 'Hear My Cry' won Best Short Film at the New York Movie Awards.
