Claws"" is a photographic image of a hand equipped with claws - a performative extensions made of cast bronze. The objects were cast from brown bear claw specimen from the Tatra Museum in Zakopane natural history collection. 20 individually made objects that can be used in a performative way. The idea behind “Claw” was closely related to a need to create a defensive mechanism."

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Katarzyna Depta-Garapich (b. 1973, Poland) is a visual artist based in London. She holds a PhD from the Slade School of Art, where she also received her BA and MA. She has been awarded the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Scholarship (2025) and the Gessel Foundation Scholarship (2023). Her upcoming solo exhibition Feral is in Warsaw in 2025. Her work has been included in the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize and exhibited at the Freud Museum.
