About the Artwork

Imagery of rock formations and standing stones appear as recurring motifs in bodies of work spanning screenprinting, documented performance and moving sculptures. In her recent varied edition screenprint series, speculative landscapes are depicted within which workers clean and maintain stone monuments or broken rock-like fragments. Through these works, she employs visual myth-making to ask how geological materials might be able to shape our notion of home, labour, ecological maintenance, and the passing of time.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ella West (b. 1991) graduated from the Slade School of Art with an MA in Fine Art Media and Contemporary Art Theory in 2022. She was shortlisted for the Adrian Carruthers Award and the Clifford Chance Purchase Prize in 2022. She was also awarded the Intaglio Printmaker Award at the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair in 2022.
