About the Artwork

5AM is a painting I made just before the renters rights act came in, when I was in the process of being evicted (as my landlord was selling) and finding I was priced out of the part of London I'd lived in for 9 years, which I'd come to think of as home. One morning I woke up at 5am feeling anxious, I walked through to the kitchen and my neighbour's silver Siberian cat appeared through the window, lit up in orange sunrise light like a vision, completely magical. Sometimes the universe gets it. I wanted to remember the little moments of magic that I felt living in that flat - the simple, ephemeral things that are easily forgotten.
