About the Artwork

Cirque extends my Penmate drawing series into a field of hand-twisted hooks, where the pattern moves gently in and out of focus. The labour of twisting each hook introduces small shifts that resist digital precision, revealing an embodied logic rooted in touch and attentive making. As the eye navigates changing densities and rhythmic variations, the work highlights how analogue processes hold space for uncertainty and nuanced perception. By foregrounding these graded transitions, the piece exposes what digital systems overlook: the generative potential of approximation and the complexity within seemingly simple structures.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Zara Ramsay (b.1993) is a London based artist working across drawing, sculpture and installation. She studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors. In 2024 she was awarded Art Council Funding to undertake a paper residency in the US. This year Ramsay's work was included in "Rana Begum Curates: Opposing Forms" at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester and was also a commissioned artist for Milton Keynes Fringe Festival. Her work is included in private collections.
