About the Artwork

Fragment is part of the Terra Brasilis series, a series inspired by the geological landscapes of Brazil. Terra Brasilis is the ancient term used to describe Brazil before European colonisation, evoking a land shaped and protected by its native peoples and deeply connected to the rhythms of nature.
Drawing inspiration from the mineral formations found within Brazilian caverns, stalactites, stalagmites, fissures, and crevices, Fragment explores the relationship between landscape, memory, and material transformation. Created from unglazed clay and wild soil, the sculpture embraces roughness, cracks, and irregularities, allowing the raw surface to retain a direct connection to the earth itself.
