About the Artwork

The Peace Flowers series pays homage to Helen Chadwick's Piss Flowers. Constructed through pouring casting material over piles of debris, the flowers collect shards and remnants, drawing fragmentary material into their skins. Shield-like they abruptly confront the viewer, revealing their fragile and brittle shell-like structures.  Peace Flower Vertebrae binds volcanic grit into a clumpy bone-like stem. The work embraces the resilience of a dandelion, defiantly protruding from pavement cracks to form a sanctuary for insect life within the city.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Anna Reading (b. 1987) is a sculptor based in London. She holds an MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art and a BA from Central St Martins. Reading is the winner of the Mark Tanner Sculpture Award (2018-19). Her work has been exhibited in shows including These Mad Hybrids (2025) and The Amber Rooms at Matts Gallery (2023). She has held residencies in Hong Kong and Denmark. Her work is included in publications such as Thinking Is Making: Objects In a Space. She recently unveiled the public sculpture Street Waders for Lewisham High Street.
