About the Artwork

The photographic series 'The Unasking of Trees' explores the relationship between humans and nature in the metropolitan environment. Vulnerable and neglected yet powerful and all-encompassing, urban and suburban trees are examined within the context of the climate crisis and biodiversity loss. The depicted tree negotiates the space it has been allowed, outgrowing it, its presence felt silently in a separate time continuum to our own. 'The Unasking of Trees' invites responsibility for urban nature, valuing its importance in our climate future: oxygen, carbon storage, soil stabilisation and wildlife.
