About the Artwork

This artwork begins with a curious found object - a “fossil” I picked up at a clay firing factory in Fez, Morocco - an amalgamation of materials and condensation of time. Working with local craftsman Mohamad Alsafouani, we added welded
metal alloy bands to the artefact, in a practice reserved for valuable decorative ceramic works.
Working across multiple alloys - the original found object, the material added to it, and the language of communication between artist and craftsman - the work celebrates ancient knowledge as a way towards futurity, and captures themes around translation and transformation through time.
