About the Artwork

'Twin Towers' is a sculpture made from house paint tin lids, some of which have been used and are covered in residual paint of many colours. The 'plinth' parts of the works are pristine unused paint tin lids. I enjoy the contrast and the connection between the used and the unused, the made and the found, the art and the plinth. The work is stacked and balanced and has both a fragility and a strength in its making.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Nicky Hirst (b. 1963) is an artist based in London. She studied Fine Art and Art and Architecture. She has exhibited extensively in galleries and museums, including the Whitechapel Art Gallery and the Imperial War Museum. In 2019, she was appointed Election Artist for the General Election, with the resulting work becoming part of the Parliamentary Art Collection. She is currently the editor of MASS Sculpture Magazine and a mentor at Turps Art School.
