About the Artwork

A Bright Blackening forms part of Carr’s developing body of work, centred on the moment destruction becomes transformation. The sculpture continues her enquiry into rupture, darkness and alchemical change, where opposing states are held in tension rather than resolved.

Following a studio fire that destroyed 25 years of artwork, alongside profound personal shifts, Carr’s practice has increasingly turned towards the generative potential of destruction.

Inhabiting a space between attraction and unease, the work asks what might emerge when destruction is understood not as an ending, but as part of an ongoing process of becoming.
