About the Artwork

XX.XX.XX (Choreographic Reference for Jewelry Advert) began as an investigation into both the nuanced poses of hand models in jewelry advertisements and the rich history of hands as a subject matter in fine art photography. The graceful gesticulations encountered in magazine ads for brands such as Swarovski and Tiffany are here mixed with two other forms of embodied communication: first, the orientations of fingers, palms, and wrists seen in non-secular medieval painting; and secondly, the tacit motions of hands and arms that serve as non-verbal signals for more and less when drinks are poured in bars.
