About the Artwork

‘Magic Wound’ explores creative tangents originating from personal encounters with physical wounds and their symbolic significance. I developed an interest in wounds, while attending the dressing of my father’s deep tissue injury, and the exploration of the medieval Books of the Hours and their intricate illustrations depicting Christ's wounds. The tapestry was created from one of my watercolour drawing exploring those themes. I propose that the wound is a passage into an initiatory drama, an aperture through which ambivalent energies surface into conscious awareness and coagulate on new terms. Here, the suturing of the wound is made through art.
