About the Artwork

'Awakening' takes the form of a ceramic bell, its surface incised to resemble a brick wall inscribed with a verse from the artist's poem: 'The voice that raises shatters walls.' Cut through openings hold handwritten verses, while a pencil hangs as pendulum, a call for renewal.

Medium: Glazed stoneware with incised text on slipware, folded paper with verses, pencil, cotton string.

Ready to Hang: Does not hang on a wall or need to be installed (is a sculpture)

The work will be suspended with a steel wire (wire and fixings will be provided) from a ceiling support (beam or racking) leaving a distance of 120cm from the floor to the lowest part of the sculpture.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Stathis Dimitriadis (b.1971, Greece) studied Chemical Engineering and trained as a ceramicist in Athens before continuing with an MA in Fine Arts at the Cass Faculty of Art, London Met.
He was a finalist for the Royal Society of Sculptors Public Art Award 2015, the National Sculpture Prize 2016 and the Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize 2016. His work was included in ceramic Biennials and public collections in Portugal, Spain, Austria, Germany and Romania.
Recent exhibition include the London Group Open 2023 and the ING Discerning Eye 2023. He is a member of the London Group and the Royal Society of Sculptors.
