About the Artwork

For this work on canvas, like for the work I make on paper, I am working towards simplicity and essentiality. I used the oil stick freely without conscious control until images started appearing. Only then are some conscious additions made, working on the suggested shape. When this approach works, the creation feels just right and, most importantly, almost entirely unexpected. I am always discovering something new, like it wasn't only me making it, and so I end up becoming my own spectator.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Fred Borghesi (b. 1987) is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in London, UK. Born in Pisa, Italy. He started making art at a young age, from street art to music-making, filmmaking, photography, and painting. He studied at the art high school of Pisa and Filmmaking in Florence.
His work was shown at the London Art Biennale, the Ruth Borchard Self-portrait Prize, Galleria Objets, the Hampstead Art Society, Emanuel Von Baeyer Gallery, and was published in White Hot Magazine, Abstract Art Projects, and The British Journal of Photography.
