About the Artwork
I wrote poetry when caring for my dad, as my way of creating outside of my painting studio. ‘Drawings of London’ references my love of Leon Kossoff, particularly his London drawings. An eager teenager with no money for art materials except pencils and paper, I visited his drawing locations (Kilburn, Willesden, Embankment etc). The poem flips between memories of my eagerness to draw and to learn, and to the present. It reflects on my resourcefulness as a young (wannabe) artist. It’s a poem about people and places, past and present, and the table lives on with its unknown history.
