About the Artwork

This work arose out of Auguries of Innocence. William Blake envisioned a world where the infinite could be seen in the ordinary. This world was eternal and regenerative. Blake’s Innocence has given way to the unquiet, where the future feels lost, quivering between decay and disappearance. My vandalised Blakean verse: “To see a world in a grain of plastic, and a heaven in a wild inferno, hold smartphone in the palm of your hand, and exit in an hour” marks this shift: a world of endless returns at a misstep with a synthetic present exhausted by technology and crises.

Medium: Painting

Year: 2025

Size: 200 x 150 x 10 cm

Ready to Hang: Yes

The work is wall-based - canvas stretched over thick stretcher bars - about 8cm thick. This combined with its relatively large size makes it quite heavy to hang - I normally use a drill and some screws instead of nails to support the weight. I could also attach some hooks to the back if this would be preferable!
