About the Artwork

Fresh & Clean brings together metal, hair, brushes, soap, and household tools to expose the “invasiveness” of gynaecological examinations and the tight entanglement between expectations of female cleanliness and the shame associated with bodily functions. The work transforms the functionality of everyday tools into bodily associations, turning objects used for cleaning, scraping, brushing, collecting, and examining into a charged sculptural scene. Through these altered tools, domestic maintenance and medical inspection become linked to the body, suggesting how private routines of care can also contain discomfort, control, and silent violence.

Ready to Hang:

This work needs to be installed on the wall using a drill. The five small sculptures should be fixed directly to the wall. Each
sculpture requires two drill holes. Each sculpture weighs less than 2 kg, so screws under 5 cm in length should be sufficient, and the holes do not need to be drilled too deeply.
