About the Artwork

Gravity Triptych is three small oil paintings, each showing a figure lying on the ground. I am interested in the body as subject and oil paint as a material that carries its own weight and resistance. The two feel connected to me. Paint that is slow and physical, applied to a body that is heavy and still.

The colours in each panel are warm and light, which sits in contrast to the figures themselves. The three panels are framed and intended to be read together, hung close to the floor so the viewer meets the figures at their own level.

Gravity Triptych comprises three framed oil paintings on canvas, hung horizontally in a vertical stack with approximately 5cm between each frame. Each panel is fitted with D-rings and picture wire and can be hung from standard hooks. No specialist installation is required.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Niah McGiff (b. 1999) is a London-based oil painter and curator. She studied Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, graduating with a BFA specialising in painting. McGiff was awarded the RISE Emerging Artist Prize by Henley Festival's charitable programme, with her paintings exhibited at the RISE gallery. Her work has been shown in group exhibitions including Flesh & Pixel (Alexandra Palace, London, 2025), a show she also curated, bringing together emerging artists to explore the body, technology, and belonging. Her practice and curatorial work have been covered by Made in Shoreditch and the Henley Standard.
