About the Artwork
My process begins with sourcing unwanted textiles such as second-hand clothing, donated or defective fabrics, and even friends’ old underwear. I deconstruct these materials, hand-sewing collaged fragments into new surfaces. The fabric is then stretched and gessoed. They are then painted in oil, using my skin as a reference for the colour palette. The wear-and-tear from bodies remains, through imperfections like worn holes, rips, and stains that create texture. Using second-hand materials is not only an ethical choice for me, but also a way to highlight their inherent imperfections and remind us of our ephemerality.
