The Elephant

Alabaster

Regular price £1,550.00
About the Artwork

The elephant is a system of curving forms - It’s not about representing an elephant anatomically, but using it as a familiar context for a resolved system of shapes.
It’s an example of the philosophy, inspired by Indian sculptural tradition, that seemingly individual phenomena are linked by bigger systems. This is why the external, looping elements are included; it’s not about putting an individual figure above it’s environment, but about presenting an equal system of forms. What appears to be a figure and it’s environment aren’t separate; that’s why the interior negative space has been considered with equal care.
