About the Artwork
Through the Moon Gate IV is part of an ongoing series inspired by the gates and windows of traditional Chinese gardens.
Drawing on their role as devices for framing movement, vision, and pause, the work explores ideas of transition, memory, and perception. Constructed from loosely woven burlap and cotton canvas, contrasting surfaces create hard-edged divisions that echo architectural thresholds. Layered ink, tonal shifts, and fragmented spatial elements form a liminal space where images emerge and recede, reflecting the experience of existing between states.
