About the Artwork
Ghosts in the Nursery moves through the psyche of relation. As daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, I ask what has been received; as mother and grandmother, what relational reflexes and rhythms of attention continue on. War, societal pressure and organised religion leave their impressions here. Habits of love, patterns of silence, strategies of intimacy; rarely taught, rarely named; arrive as atmosphere, taken in without language. The nursery becomes a site of first encounter, where the world is felt through mood, touch, absence and rule. Larger histories enter intimate life. They do not remain outside; they are rocked, fed, disciplined, prayed over.
