About the Artwork

My latest project uses discarded plates as illustrative storyboards, highlighted within bespoke crafted box frames. I love the random abandon of this process as you’re never quite sure which direction the narrative might go, nuanced by the set patterns, hues, textures or accidental imperfections of the original ceramic. As well as the absurdity of modern life there are also a number of developing series such as imaginary dystopian future worlds or cities. The ongoing rolling Tyres production line are a paean to my favourite French word ‘Pneu’!

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tom Buchanan (b. 1971) is an illustrator trained in the Graphic Arts. He is fascinated by assemblage and the tactile possibilities of found objects. His first book, Out of The Box, was recently published, celebrating the significance of found things and the art of collecting. This work helped him understand his own creative practice and his attraction to the process of cause and effect and the collision of unlikely objects.
