About the Artwork
A dioramic vista set on a shelf; the scene focuses on a game where two well-to-do masked figures fire balls at an unseen target. Nearby, an angry-looking, unmasked figure struggles to roll a new ball into line. Keep Your Distance’s narrative alludes to a dysfunctional political hierarchy, rotting within and without. Piles of rubble litter the landscape, and beneath the largest mound, another masked figure lies crushed, while above it all, a smiling flag turns green. One refrain repeats across the piece: ‘keep calm and carry on’, written onto multiple red teacups.
