About the Artwork

Mother (Labour) is a sculptural work made from found sections of industrial ducting, powder-coated in security yellow. The two sections lean together to form a self-supporting arch. The elements are not fixed but held in place through balance and mutual support. Positioned directly on the floor, the work creates a simple, open structure that suggests play, interaction and movement, while retaining a connection to its industrial origins.

Ready to Hang:

The work consists of two separate elements that lean against one another to form a self-supporting arch. There are no fixings, joins or permanent connections between the parts. The sculpture should be installed directly on a flat, level floor surface.
No plinth, frame or wall mounting is required.
The work can be installed both indoors and outdoors. The powder-coated finish makes it weatherproof and suitable for exterior conditions.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Frea Buckler (b. 1974) is a Bristol-based artist working across painting, printmaking, sculpture and installation. She holds a BA (Hons) Fine Art from Central Saint Martins (1996) and an MA in Multidisciplinary Printmaking from the University of the West of England (2006). Her work has been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions with KlotzShows, Brussels; Space Gallery, Denver; Smithson Projects, Bristol; and Graphic Studio Gallery, Dublin, and at fairs including Art Antwerp. Her work is held in public collections including the University of Warwick and Trinity College Dublin, and she has received the Neo:Print Prize.
