About the Artwork

Legs, body, thoughts- my work has evolved around other things, paid work, family, health, care, learning new skills and finding my language, how best I want to communicate. A while ago I discovered that the mixed media work seemed to work better - gathering different textures surface form and theme. This piece is made from 3 pieces from slightly different timescales- different bodies of work- but comes together better than anything I perhaps could have planned.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Julia Clarke (b.1970) works with willow, ceramics and mixed media. She states that her work comes from a place of having to make, "like breathing I’ve always needed to make…be tactile, touch, and create in 3D”. She has always been fascinated by the spaces between things, shapes and form, scale, texture, materials and the physical process of making. Inspired by experimenting with materials to try and make something that feels right in the space around her. Sculpture is the language she uses to communicate, to feel connection with others and helps her interact and feel purposeful.
